Our April 2025 newsletter is out now!

Written by Hayley

Our Spring newsletter is packed with forthcoming events, including our summer celebration incorporating our AGM! Find out more here!

You can download our April 2025 newsletter in PDF format here. For those who receive a paper, audio, or Braille copy in the post, this will arrive with you over the next few days (Braille copies may take a little longer).

This newsletter is another bumper edition packed with highlights, including:

  • Details of our next Living Well with Sight Loss course, taking place on 28th April and 1st May.
  • News of an Optelec Assistive Technology Clinic here at the St. Swithun’s Community Centre on Monday 12th May. Please ring Optelec on 0800 145 6115 or email sarahk@optelec.co.uk to book an appointment.
  • An invitation to our summer celebration, incorporating our Annual General Meeting, on Wednesday 4th June. We would love as many of our members, stakeholders, partners and friends to join us for lunch and an afternoon of games and activities here at the St. Swithun’s Community Centre!
  • An opportunity to share your views on accessing cancer screening appointments, diagnosis, and treatment as a sight impaired person, in partnership with our friends at the Yorkshire Cancer Community. A free lunch is also included and all are welcome, even if you have never been personally affected by cancer yourself.
  • Details of an outing to Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills, including a special tour and artefacts handling session, on Wednesday 14th June.
  • The latest news about our Art Beyond Vision group, which will be meeting again at St. Swithun’s from Thursday 24th April and would love to welcome new people!
  • All the dates of our regular activities, which are now presented on an A3-sized calendar in the centrefold of the printed edition.

For those who receive a newsletter in the post, we have also included a double-sided survey. One side asks about home visits, and the other asks about coffee mornings and social groups. It is really important for us to gather as much feedback as possible from the people who use our services, so if you have received a home visit or attended a group in the past year and have a few moments to complete the survey(s), we would really appreciate it. You can download a PDF copy of the survey here – please feel free to email your feedback to ceo@wdsa.org.uk or to ring the office on 01924 215555 and we would be happy to do the survey over the phone with you.

We would also welcome feedback from stakeholders and partners, so if you would like to share your thoughts on the value of our services and how we work together, please feel free to email us your comments.

As always, huge thanks to all our volunteers who make it possible for us to send out the newsletter every quarter. This is a massive job, and simply wouldn’t happen without their help. Special thanks this quarter to Pam, Catherine, Mike, Julie, Kath, Ania, and Filip for their support.
