We are particularly thrilled to announce that our volunteer Catherine Brocklesby has been shortlisted for a Community Foundation Wakefield Unsung Heroes Award 2026! You can vote for Catherine here (but voting closes on 30th September so please be quick!).

Other highlights include:

• A reminder about our Macular information morning, which is taking place here at St. Swithun's Community Centre on Wednesday 7th October. There are still a couple of places available so please do ring the office to book on if you are interested.
• Our next canal boat outing with The Safe Anchor Trust, which is happening on Tuesday 20th October.
• A festive afternoon tea and Christmas table decoration workshop, being held here at St. Swithun's on Wednesday 25th November.
• Our annual Christmas lunch, which will be on Monday 7th December at the Create Cafe.
• The opportunity to join us to visit the Plastic Fantastic? exhibition at Wakefield Museum, including tactile elements and audio description, on Tuesday 26th January.

The newsletter also contains details of all our regular social groups (including the programme of activities for our Cuppa & Connect group), the dates of our next Living Well with Sight Loss course, and information about our Art Beyond Vision sessions.

Unfortunately there wasn't space to share this in the main newsletter, but our friends at Healthwatch Wakefield are asking people across Wakefield District to tell them what works well, what doesn’t, and what could be better. From the NHS App to online GP appointments, they want to hear what you think. Take part on the phone, face to face, at one of our groups, or online.
