Our July 2025 newsletter is out now!
Our Summer 2025 newsletter is packed with events and opportunities to get involved with!
This newsletter is another bumper edition packed with highlights, including:
- Our new Cuppa and Connect group, starting on Wednesday 17th September at St. Swithun’s Community Centre (replacing our Wednesday coffee morning at The Ridings)!
- The dates of our next Living Well with Sight Loss courses, which will be running on 14th and 21st July and on 29th September and 2nd October, both at Lightwaves Leisure Centre.
- Details of audio described tours of the fantastic Jason and the Wakefield Adventure exhibition at WX.
- An invitation to join the wonderful Forgotten Women of Wakefield Team for two creative workshops as part of the fascinating Beyond Braille project, which is examining the origins and history of Wakefield Blind Society, which later became Wakefield District Sight Aid.
- Our Scones and Showtunes event, which features afternoon tea and a screening of Mamma Mia! The Musical.
- The opportunity to get involved with an exciting partnership project with Theatre Royal Wakefield, aiming to improve theatre experiences for people with vision impairment.
- Our Lively Lunch Club event, following the success of our AGM and summer celebration at which we shared a delicious home-cooked meal and accessible games.
- All the dates of our regular activities, which are now presented on an A3-sized calendar in the centrefold of the printed edition.
Now that we are based within the St. Swithun’s Community Centre, we are trying to think of new and creative ways we can use this fantastic facility to try different types of events. However, we know that if you’ve never been here before, the idea of making the journey (especially via public transport) might be a little daunting, so we are running some orientation and confidence-building sessions to help people feel comfortable to travel here independently. Please contact the office on 01924 215555 to register for one of these sessions.
If you receive a paper, audio, or Braille copy of the newsletter in the post, these will be with you in the next few days.
As always, I would like to extend my thanks to all our volunteers who make it possible for us to send out the newsletter every quarter. This is a huge job, and simply wouldn’t happen without their help. Special thanks this quarter to Pam, Catherine, Mike, Julie, Kath, Andy, Filip and Michael for their support.
If you would like the newsletter in an additional or alternative format, or have any questions, please do contact us in the office on 01924 215555.
