Invitation to participate in accessible dance workshops this Autumn

Written by Hayley

We are delighted to share this information on behalf of the Feathers dance project.

We are excited to announce a series of dance workshops this autumn as part of our ongoing project, Feathers, aimed at creating greater social and cultural inclusion for Blind and Visually Impaired (B/VI) artists and communities through the transformative power of dance. We would like to extend a warm invitation to your service users to participate in these workshops and connect with your organisations to explore potential collaboration for community engagement.

About Feathers:

Feathers is an innovative dance project led by choreographer Sandrine Monin, that has received support from Arts Council England, the Genesis Foundation and Leeds Inspired. We aim to challenge perceptions and create an inclusive artistic experience that celebrates the talents and capabilities of all individuals, ensuring that our work truly resonates with and represents the blind and visually impaired community. Through workshops and creative sessions tailored for B/VI individuals, and with the support of innovative technology, we have created a space where B/VI individuals can safely explore movement, express themselves and connect with others in meaningful ways.

Previous Participants' Feedback:

We have already connected with B/VI communities in Leeds, Bradford, and London, where Feathers has been met with great enthusiasm and impact.

“You reminded me of my power and that I can do much more than I thought” (Seona, London participant)

“I feel so much better in my physical and mental self. So many emotions have come up, but I know I am stronger for all I have done, achieved and what I have not achieved were lessons also” (Sue, Leeds participant)

“This [dance workshop] should be prescribed to anyone who gets diagnosed with sight impairment”, “I’ve gained confidence, and body awareness and strength in my body” (Helen, Bradford participant)

“Being here is a big difference.” (Lydia, Bradford participant)
